Economic Impact Questions

How many jobs will be coming to the corridor as a result of the Westinghouse move?
Almost 3,500 jobs have been brought to Cranberry Township as a result of Westinghouse, with a possible 1,000 additional jobs in the near future. Those additional jobs are in jeopardy if improvements are not made to Rt. 228.

What is the residual economic impact of all these jobs?
For every $80,000 job associated with a global corporation, such as Westinghouse, the Community Development Corporation of Butler County estimates that 5-9 additional jobs are created as a result, or in support of the original job. These jobs also translate into millions of dollars in payroll taxes.

What can a business do to show support or lobby for a solution to the Rt. 228 project?
A business owner or resident in support of improving Rt. 228 can voice their opinion with local, state and federal elected officials.

How will businesses along the Rt. 228 corridor be affected by and benefit from the Rt. 228 project?
The road improvements will most importantly improve vehicular access to the businesses along the corridor. By providing more capacity on 228, the project will allow for the flow of a greater number of vehicles through the corridor in a more efficient way. Additionally, the improvements will accommodate the traffic associated with several other developments planned along the corridor. This development will result in an increase of people living and working in the corridor, who will then patronize the existing businesses along the corridor.
