Recent History and Status: Recent History and Status:

2001 -- PennDOT’s Route 228 Project: Route 19 to Route 8 Planning Initiated

2003 -- Simon Properties Group introduces mixed use development project and partners with PennDot and Cranberry Township, introducing Route 228 Phase 1 - from Route 19 and east to Myoma Road  (the Partnership Project). 

2007 -- Design and construction costs of the Partnership Project are estimated at $75 mil.

2009 - January -- Simon makes decision to pull away from the Partnership.

2009 - February -- Regional Corridor Alliance (RCA) is formed to advocate for Route 228 Improvements

2009 - April -- PennDOT announces plan to design and construct northbound and southbound access ramps to I-79 with a connection to Cranberry Woods.  Also replacement of Route 228 railroad bridge just east of Mars Valencia road is announced. 

2009 - May -- Regional Corridor Alliance - West (RCA-West) is formed to advocate for Freedom Road Upgrade Improvements.
2009 - September -- Additional dedicated lane connector giving direct access from I-79 Cranberry North Bound Exit into Cranberry Woods leading to the main Westinghouse entrance is completed.
